Hidden in the depths of the Goudveld Forest you will find the Millwood Goldfields and the Millwood Mines surrounded by mountain fynbos and ancient trees. An unusual area still filled with echoes of when gold was first found in South Africa.
Join us in exploring this historical area to learn about one of South Africa’s first, short-lived gold rushes. Scattered amongst the hills are abandoned mine shafts, where you’ll have the opportunity to see one of the shafts called Bendigo. At the entrance to the Bendigo shaft you will find some of the old original mining equipment which has been restored in an ongoing restoration project.
On the guided walk, we’ll take you through streets with names but no buildings, if you look carefully you will notice the foundations of the old hotels, a bank, drinking saloons and newspapers printers. If you’re brave we will venture through an eerie grave yard and then up onto a hill where the views over the Outeniqua Mountains and the Millwood Nature Reserve are breathtaking. Sitting there you could easily return to when this little town was in its heyday.
Set in the Indigenous forests of the Millwood Nature Reserve, home to the Knysna Lourie and endangered Knysna Dwarf Chameleon, this trail is a must for the history lover and includes an easy walk through the reserve.

A very professionally run outfit, so rare in the current climate. From enquiry, to booking and through to the actual experience, 5/5, our company members thoroughly enjoyed ourselves...everyone's still talking about it... well done guys, keep it up, and see you again one day.
I have travelled the world and used over 50 adventure companies, and i have never had a company keep 50% of my money because i cannot make the activity, especially with over 5 months notice.
People deserve to know that once you have paid this company whatever the circumstances, you will not be getting your money back. well maybe some if you argue with them.
Just finished the Drakensberg Grand Traverse with GoVertical. What a wonderful experience. Garth's passion and knowledge of the Drakensberg is legendary. Ill definitely see you again for a trek in the Garden Route.
Very experienced guides and looked after our every need while in the mountains. Highly recommended.
GoVertical really showed us a great time whilst exploring the Drakensberg and the Tsitsikamma Mountains. Thank you again for a wonderful time in South Africa
We spent days with the Govertical team exploring trails on the Garden Route. Fantastic guys. Thank you
